So... I’m in Perimenopause. Now What?
I knew menopause was coming eventually, but I thought I had years before I had to think about it. Turns out, my body had other plans.
Perimenopause hit me out of nowhere—so much so that I had to get my estrogen levels checked over time to confirm what was happening. The symptoms? Unpredictable. One day I felt totally normal, and the next, I was waking up in the middle of the night, overheating for no reason, and feeling more emotional than usual (which, let’s be real, is saying something). So, here I am, officially in perimenopause, trying to figure out how to support my body through this transition without feeling like a stranger in my own skin. And guess what? Ayurveda has been a massive support . if you’re in the same boat—wondering why your body is suddenly on a hormonal rollercoaster—let’s talk about how Ayurveda can help us navigate this chapter with a little more ease and a lot more balance.
Why Ayurveda?
Instead of seeing menopause as a "decline," Ayurveda treats it as a natural transition—a shift from the Pitta phase of life (driven, fiery, go-go-go energy) into the wisdom-filled Vata phase (airy, intuitive, reflective).
The problem? When Vata gets too high, it brings on symptoms like:
Insomnia or restless sleep
Anxiety and mood swings
Dry skin, hair, and joints
And if Pitta is aggravated, you get:
Hot flashes
Irritability and anger out of nowhere
Increased inflammation
For some, Kapha might be the issue, leading to:
Sluggishness and brain fog
Weight gain
Fluid retention
Sound familiar? Because same. 😅 But the good news is, Ayurveda helps us work with our doshas to restore balance, so we don’t have to suffer through this phase feeling out of control.

What’s Been Helping Me (and Might Help You Too!)
Starting My Day with Warm Water & Ghee – Helps with dryness, digestion, and keeping Vata in check. Plus, it feels like a little hug for my insides.
Herbs Like Shatavari & Ashwagandha – These two have been game-changers. Shatavari is amazing for hormonal support, and Ashwagandha helps me not feel like a sleep-deprived gremlin when stress kicks in.
Gentle Yoga & Nadi Shodhana (Breathwork) – The days I do this, I feel so much calmer and centered—and the hot flashes are way less intense.
Cooling & Nourishing Foods – I’ve learned the hard way that too much coffee or spicy food makes symptoms worse. Instead, I’m leaning into warm, grounding meals with good fats (hello, avocados and ghee) and hydrating foods like cucumbers and coconut.
Prioritizing Sleep Like It’s My Job – No screens before bed, early dinners, and golden milk (turmeric + warm milk) have made a huge difference in getting better sleep.
Menopause Isn’t the End—It’s a New Beginning
I won’t lie—this transition is weird and sometimes frustrating. But Ayurveda has helped me understand what’s happening in my body and how to support it, instead of just pushing through the discomfort or resisting it
